I'm considering saving up for one of these portable book reading devices, like the Victor Reader Stream, the GW Micro Booksense, or the Plextalk Pocket PTP1. I'm mainly interested not only in playing NLS digital talking books, but also standard audio books. Not sure if I want to read any Etexts, but I suppose this is an option. But waht I also want to do is make high-quality recordings, be they podcasts or even field recordings of interesting sounds I might find. This is why I'm considering the Plextalk Pocket at this point. I know when people talk about these machines, it's usually only about the Booksense or Victor Reader Stream, but the Victor, even though it's the most popular, would have me convert audio recordings from a specialized format into .wav and then probably into something more compact. I'm also told the Booksense would be cool if it had been beta-tested more thorroughly and wasn't full of bugs. So the Plextalk Pocket is looking more interesting, but nobody seems to discuss it. Do any of you own one? Any experiences good or bad with the thing, or any reasons why I should go for one of the other ones? If I'm going to spend some $350 I want it to be worth it. And no, I do not want to get the Booksens XT because I have enough FM radios which are probably far better than the one built into that model. Not paying $500 or so for an FM radio. LOL! So what do ya think?
